Oh Word? Yeah, this is a little ”thing-thing” I’ll do every now and then when I feel it’s necessary to shed some light on some things. Ever since I first saw a Red Bull™ commercial for the first time a good maybe, 12-13 years ago…I never really knew what they were about or what they made. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized they make soft drinks that make you do 36 Backflips in 2.4 seconds, it’s possible…I’ve seen it. Sooo, low and behold their slogan has always been and should quite possibly stay the same…”Red Bull™ Gives You Wiiinnggs!” Not to be mistaken for an upcoming Nintendo title or an appetizer at your favorite restaurant of choice, it would appear as though Red Bull™ HAS infact given people “wings” in a sense, through the form of…Music?

Last week, Post Dilla Funk caught up with Exile at the Fix in Portland. In the house was also Cut Chemist, and Shawn Jackson. Exile was spinning the night after at Pi-Rem for Heavy Rotation, which by the way was a hell of a show. Sober enough (barely) to operate my Sony mp3 recorder I caught a couple of quick questions with Mr. Dirty Science himself, Exile.
If you heard about the Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto in 2007, Steve Beckett , co-founder of Warp Records, announced the signing of Hudson Mohawke (Hudmo, Scotland). There is talks of a potential LP dropping sometime in 2009. I can’t wait to hear more from this kid. I can’t believe he is only 22! He needs to slow down and let everyone catch up.

Since that deal with Pacific Division and Universal took place, we’ll see what Swiff D has in store for his instrumental beat compilation. I don’t care what it is, what kinda style, sound, or flip – Swiff D always delivers. What the fuck where you thinking with that “Doug” beat?! Sheesh, don’t hurt ‘em.

Samiyam – The Return EP (Hyperdub)
___________________________
So I’m going to come off a little bias because I’ve been a fan of Samiyam’s music ever since I started listening to this 8Bit/Electronic/Instrumental genre. But this EP is the shit. I remember hearing some hate because his beats were too minimal, but Sam came 110% with this one.The Return EP was everything I wanted to hear in the dude summed up in 4 tracks. Period, now buy it and crack your neck. It’s evident that since Rap Beats Vol.1 dude has grown into his polished self. The title track “Return” is one of the best beats I’ve heard from Sam today. There is something about Samiyam that is very soulful, but at the same time, is like “Who gives a fuck.” You can get a taste of the direction Sam is taking his beats from now forward with this album.
Cop the The Return EP.
Avilable now on iTunes for $3.96. (It’s cheaper than a gallon of gas and you’ll thank me later)
Devon – 2088 Archives
Not only does Devon make filthy beats, he’s also the homie. He probably is the most talented, abstract, and pale producer I’ve ever met (yeah, them hours in the basement pay off.. haha) The Portland beatsmith takes us to the year 2088 and back with this throwback collection of beats for the future – Yeah, I said it. Get your space helmet ready sluts.
